Travel Mate is a mobile application that students can use to find others with similar interests, hobbies, fields of study, and location. Users provide details about themselves including the institution they are studying at, when they will be travelling, and whether they are looking for a roommate. Our matchmaking system uses this information along with other filters to provide users with potential matches, giving them an opportunity to connect with each other. In doing so, our application addresses the social isolation and loneliness as well as the financial burden of travelling and studying away from home experienced by many students. By connecting students with similar interests and those in similar living and travelling situations, our platform is a meaningful support system that alleviates many of the stressors involved with post-secondary education and can help save users save money through finding shared accommodation or transportation.
