Micro-Drone Exploration In GPS-Denied Environments

An autonomous micro-drone exploration and mapping system for GPS-denied environments.

Efficient exploration

Our micro-drone uses sensors to efficiently explore unknown environments to collect data and return to the user.

Collision avoidance

Uses LiDAR to avoid obstacles and safely navigate dynamic environments.

Zero-network / GPS-denied environment

Our drone operates without any wireless communication or GPS and all calculations are performed onboard.

Expandable functionality

Drone can be equipped with additional mission-specific sensors such as natural gas detectors.

Our solution is a completely offline unknown environment exploration system that uses a micro-drone equipped with sensors such as LiDAR efficiently and safely navigate any environment. All navigation decisions are computed on board the drone without any assistance from a base station. Due its small size and no wireless requirement, the drone can explore areas that have not been possible previously or considered too dangerous.

Environments such as a caves, sewers, mines, damaged property, and oil transportation pipelines are often unreachable by humans, hazardous due to toxic gases, and unstable in terms of their overall structure. Furthermore, wireless connection is limited or completely unavailable, making any systems that rely on GPS completely non-functional.
